Repertoire

The choir is at home across the range of music, both secular and religious, and in terms of scale. Larger
choral works have included the German Requiem of Brahms, Faure’s Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat and the Gloria
from Vivaldi. These have been complemented by works such as Byrd’s Mass in Four Parts, and Bach’s Jesu Mein
Freunde, Beatus Vir by Monteverdi, In Dulce Jubilo from Buxtehude and, from the more modern composers, works
by Paul Mealor, Cecilia McDowell and James Macmillan. The choir has been long associated with Stafford
composer Eric Bennett, who has written works given their first performance by Chetwynd.
Such a programme demands a strict approach to preparation and expansion of the repertoire and attention to
details of the score, with members and sections putting in effort above and beyond the regular rehearsal
schedule. There may be occasional vacancies that occur and those who might be interested in joining Chetwynd
should approach the Musical Director in the first instance.
